Moberly Regional Medical Center Promotes Respiratory Hygiene for Healthier Communities

MOBERLY, Mo. – As flu season approaches, Moberly Regional Medical Center is encouraging people to prioritize respiratory hygiene to keep their communities healthier. Simple preventive measures can help keep ourselves and our loved ones healthier during the Fall and Winter seasons.
“I encourage everyone to talk with their primary care provider about when to get their flu shot and other preventative measures people can take to stay healthier and to help others stay healthier this flu season,” said Lindy Breshears, FNP at Chariton Valley Family Medicine, which is a part of Moberly Regional Medical Center.
To help reduce the spread of common respiratory illnesses, Breshears recommends the following practices:
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue: Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze helps to contain germs. Be sure to dispose of the tissue immediately and wash your hands afterward.
- Wear a mask if you have symptoms: Consider wearing a mask if you’re experiencing symptoms like a cough or sore throat. It’s a small but effective step to prevent the spread of germs to those around you.
- Practice regular hand hygiene: Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses. When soap and water aren't available, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol is a good alternative.
Implementing these practices into our daily routines can help keep our communities healthier. Respiratory hygiene is a simple and important practice to help prevent the spread of illnesses, especially during the time of year when colds, flu and other respiratory infections are more common.
