For Your Safety

Hospital personnel are able to handle all types of emergencies. However, we ask for your cooperation in our safety program by complying with the following:

  • Use the nurse call button whenever you need assistance. Please do not attempt to get out of bed or into a wheelchair unassisted unless you have been authorized to do so.
  • Wear slippers with soles instead of booties or socks to prevent slipping. MRMC's Fall-Reduction program includes identifying patients who are at a high risk for falls with a yellow armband and a "LAMP" magnet on their hospital room door. The LAMP stands for "look at me please", which reminds all staff to provide a safe environment for the patient.
  • Bedrails are not used at MRMC as a means to prevent falls. However, one side of the bedrail or the upper half may be used to help prevent a fall, for grounding yourself prior to transfers, or bed mobility exercises.
  • MRMC enforces strict Infection Control measures. Gowns, goggles, gloves and masks are used for some procedures.
  • Steps are taken to reduce the risk of health care associated infections by complying with the Center for Disease Control Hand Hygiene Guidelines. There are alcohol-based hand santitizers available in all patient care areas.
  • Fire and disaster drills are held periodically in order to prepare hospital personnel for any emergency. The nurse will advise you on the procedure that must be followed.
  • MRMC is a SMOKE-FREE campus.
  • All patients will be identified by two patient identifiers prior to administering medications, taking blood samples or performing a procedure.
  • It is the philosophy at MRMC to encourage independence to all patients. Each patient has the right to be free from restraints of any form that are not medically necessary or used as a means of coercion, discipline, convenience, or retaliation by staff. The term "restraint" includes any method, manual or by the use of equipment, that restricts freedom of movement. It is our goal to provide each patient with the least restrictive environment needed to improve his/her well-being.
